Why Is Healthy Eating So Important?
As we grow older, managing unwanted weight properly and having the right balance of food types increases our overall sense of well being, and boosts vitality.
Another important aspect to this is that a healthy diet will decrease the risk of developing serious illnesses and diseases.
A Healthy Diet Simply Explained:
- Try to include many starchy foods in your diet including rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, breakfast cereals, sweet potatoes and yams. Always make an effort to go for the wholemeal variety of these foods wherever possible
- Aim to get five servings of a variety of vegetables and fruits every single day
- Use a very moderate amount of dairy products and check out the low fat varieties
- Use a moderate quantity of meat, fish or alternatives like eggs, beans, lentils and peas - try to find lower fat versions where possible
- The occasional treats - foods which might be higher in fat, salt and/or added sugar should only be eaten sparingly
- A small amount of salt - always check the label
